Eve to 2018 New year wasn’t palatable for the people of Sanga Local Government Area, due to the gruesome murder of their paramount Traditional ruler who is also the Chairman Sanga Traditional council, Dr. Gambo Makama, Etum Numana (2nd) and his pregnant wife. They were assassinated by gunmen who are suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, at his home. His Palace home was burnt down to ashes, including his car.
Killings have been ongoing in Southern Kaduna, with much impunity and to this moment the criminals behind these genocidal attacks have not been apprehended by either the state government or the federal government.
It can also be recalled that four people were killed in Nindem, Godogodo Chiefdom on Friday night (22nd December, 2017), leaving many with different degree of injuries.
Another attack was carried out in Ungwan Mailafia – Kwagiri of Gwong Chiefdom on Sunday night (24th December, 2017) being Christmas eve, where five people were killed and many injured, who are presently receiving treatment in various hospitals.
It is as a result of the above that some concerned Southern Kaduna sons and daughters held a Peace Stand on 30th of December, 2017, showing their grievances on what they tagged as a deliberate attempt by both the federal and state government, not interested in tackling the killings executed by ‘known fulanis terrorists’ who the Governor- Nasir El-Rufai said he paid to stop killings in Southern Kaduna.
The youths mounted the Kafanchan roundabout carrying placard with different inscriptions, such as ‘Enough is Enough’. They expressed concerns on the place of self defense, especially when the government appears to have failed in its responsibility to secure lives and properties. They advised the government not to stretch the people to the limits of attempting to rise up to the defense of themselves and their lands from Fulani terrorists. They advised the government to take responsibility to provide security and stop paying killers and terrorists, using limited funds meant for the state development.
