ANDREW AUGUSTINE UMARU
Between year 2016 and 2018 over twenty five (25) communities in southern Kaduna had been assailed and a couple of those razed down by the hydra-headed men of the herder Klan. These communities still lie in ruin and stretched across five (5) local government areas which includes Jema’a, Sanga, Kauru, Kaura and Chikun with millions worth of food and properties stolen by the Fulani killers and billions worth of properties war-worn. Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa, Plateau and Adamawa have their own stories to tell with respect to these attacks.
Following the patterned trend of attacks and the government’s body language as well as infrequent press statements I hereby, unequivocally assert that the conspiracy by Mohammad Buhari and the Federal Government against Southern Kaduna is fulgent for all to see and this assertion is not without facts. The unremitted killings by herdsmen led to endless yearnings by concerned Nigerians, other stake holders and civil societies across the world for Mohammadu Buhari to intervene, Femi Adesina the spokesman to Mohammadu Buhari on the 26th of December, 2016 arrogantly and discourteously told the world that
“President Mohammadu Buhari WILL NOT talk about the persistent
Killings in Southern Kaduna because Governor Nasir El-Rufai is on
top of the matter”
It therefore was amazing that he erroneously sited true federalism as the reason for Mohammadu Buhari’s refusal to comment on the killings of innocent Nigerians, Women, Aged and Children in cold blood while in their sleep at the peak of an insensitive and somewhat complot 24 hours curfew declared by the maximum ruler of Kaduna State Nasir El-rufai, and I dare to ask Where in true federalism forbids a president as the commander in chief from asking questions that bounds around security of life and properties, especially when it is clear that a cleansing was systematically conducted? Anyways this is just one amongst many reasons for suspicion.
Nine (9) months later after chains of dreaded killings which saw the main stream media reporting these cases at regular intervals, Mohammadu Buhari visited Kaduna State on the 12th of September, 2017 to inaugurate the $150million Olam Poultry and feed mill but designedly refused to visit the ailing region to commensurate with the bereaved and those who lost their valued belongings in Southern Kaduna. Perhaps he was not too fit based on health reasons or has not been told the evil that befell Southern Kaduna but barely two (2) months later on the 13th of November, 2017 in a special retreat of the federal executive council titled “Education in Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects” the President express his support for Nasir El-Rufai planned sack of 21, 780 teachers in the state. This is to say that the president silence on the killings was a deliberate act and a solidarity consent to his Klansmen, as his comments confirmed his knowledge of developments in Kaduna State.
It therefore became a puzzle solved when Mohammadu Buhari visited Kaduna State on the 4th of January, 2018 to commission 10 new coaches and 2 locomotives for the Kaduna-Abuja rail line and the inland dry port in Kakuri, once more the president saw no need to visit the troubled region and when his silence became consent and members of the national assembly started issuing out the enough is enough sermons, the inept octogenarian of a president on January 19th, 2018 had this to say,
“I decided to drop the uniform and come back here to be president
Of Nigeria, so I have gone through it over and over again. This is
Why I AM NOT IN A HURRY TO DO ANYTHING, I will sit
and reflect and continue to operate with my clear conscience”.
This was while commenting on the herdsmen recent rampage in Benue and Adamawa during a meeting with party leaders and supporters in Abuja. And my questions are these; if Mohammadu Buhari was not in a hurry to do anything, why then did he put up a committee of enquiry to visit Taraba, Ile-Ife, Mambilla, Ekiti and Kajuru when it was alleged that Hausa Fulani/Fulani herdsmen were at the receiving end of different types of violence? Does that mean that there is a systematic case of hegemony in play? It therefore becomes pellucid that this government had compromised the oath she swore to protect all Nigerians and are guilty of dereliction of services at different points of representation. And I am left with no thoughts but that which continue to remind me of the segregation and divides which has been established along ethnic and religious lines by a failed government.
Recently according to a statement dated February 1st, 2018. Signed by Senior Special Assistant on media and publicity to Mohammadu Buhari, the federal government at a resumed sitting of a working group set up a committee by National Economic Council and headed by David Umahi on the so called Herders/Farmers violence in Taraba, Zamfara, Benue and Adamawa. This committee on purpose omitted Kaduna State from her list and I am left with no option but to point out the conspiracy that exist in the handling of the Southern Kaduna carnage by the government at State and Federal tiers.
At this point I categorically posit to well-meaning Nigerians that the federal government led by Mohammadu Buhari and strongly collaborating with Nasir El-rufai have been acting a script on the herdsmen killings in Nigeria. Impunity is celebrated as the Miyetti Allah cattle breeders had owned up to attacks, gave reasons for organizing such killings and walked away without probe while hundreds of bereaved had been arrested and imprisoned for trying to defend themselves and are tagged trouble makers. Ordinary men like El-rufai had quickly become the spokespersons for the killers rather than committing time and resources in honesty to end this carnage and had accused pastors of planning attacks in Churches and selling narratives to attract foreign aids for burials and rebuilding of worship places. The battery sized dictator in Kaduna State have good knowledge of the killers and had negotiated with them in gross disregard of laws binding foreign policies without a single caution. So therefore I urge us all to, lawfully defend ourselves as the conspiracy of silence by this government is as bright as the sunlight and they have no intents to protect Nigerians from the menace of this evil Klan called herdsmen. As the democracy we have today is of the Herdsmen, by the Herdsmen and for the Herdsmen but we will continue to remain Spartan in the struggle for good governance and fair play to the oppressed and voiceless.
