If you predict that there would be killings in Kajuru tonight, you wouldn’t be recognised as a prophet when it eventually happens as there has been NO SECURITY for lives and propety for a consecutive period, evident with the recurring patterned killings that have made Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna state popular for the wrong reason, an unfortunate way to gain prominence.
Between January 2020 to date, no fewer than 107 persons have been killed, 49 injured, about 66 kidnap cases, 111 houses burnt, 32 villages destroyed and more than 20,000 persons displaced in Adara community, according to a press release by the President, Adara Development Association (ADA), Mr. Awemi Maisamari.
Recall that the Agwom Adara, a First Class Chief and leader of the Adara nation, Kajuru LGA, Dr. Maiwada Galadima was kidnapped on October 19, 2018 only to be found dead on October 26, 2018. If a leader was never safe, should the led expect to be safe?
The pandemonium that followed these events led to loss of lives and property at different locations of the state that month of October.
Meanwhile, “the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government” is clearly spelt out by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chapt. 2, Section 14(2b).
Which leads to the question: Has Kajuru Local Government Authority and Kaduna State Government delivered in this regards?
The answer is crystal clear as tears and blood continue to drench the ground of Kajuru.
It is no doubt normal to have a challenge slip out of a States ability to contain thereby requiring Federal Government’s intervention. In April 2020, a lawmaker representing Kano North, Senatorial District, Barau Jibrin called on the FG to intervene in Kano’s death surge linked to COVID-19.
It is therefore not out of place for the Federal Government to take over securing the lives and property and to urgently arrest the rising humanitarian crisis in Adara Community (where over 20,000 persons are displaced so far). The Executive Chairman of Kajuru, Mr. Caino Cafra and the Executive Governor of the state, Mal. Nasir el-Rufa’i have not been able to stop Kajuru killings.
An excerpt from his acceptance speech to Nigerians after his victory in 2015 election, President Muhammadu Buhari said, “you Shall be able to go to bed knowing you are safe…”. In contrast, this has not been the case for the Adara Community.
While Nigerians collectively call for the end of killings in #SouthernKaduna, and other places across Nigeria where continuous orchestrated killings and extra-judicial killings have continued.
The intervention of the Federal Government under the President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration might be the Silver Bullet the Adara nation, Kajuru LGA, Kaduna State require to go to bed safe.
