KADUNA LG POLLS: VOTE CREDIBLE CANDIDATES NOT PARTY
The Kaduna State Coordinator of the Voter’s Club of Nigeria, Mr. Tim Maiyaki has advised electorates to vote in credible candidates into the 278 offices to be filled during the 12th May, 2018 local government elections across Kaduna State.
He made the call during an interview with journalists in Kaduna.
In his remarks, Tim admonished eligible voters to ensure that they cast their votes for candidates of their choice, and such candidates must be credible and reliable, irrespective of political party.
The Kaduna State coordinator of the Voter’s Club of Nigeria was quoted as saying.. ‘We must insist on credibility and quality of persons and not their political parties. As often the elected officials abandons party manifestos and run with their own ideas or manifestos, that is when they have any manifestos in the first place’. He added that the council polls remain the most important of all elections, as it provides the first line of contact between the masses and any forms of democratic governance.
While speaking on the preparedness of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM), he applauded the commission headed by Mrs. Saratu Binta Dikko-Audu for the giant steps it has taken so far in ensuring it delivers world class elections. ‘For now, the commission has done creditably well in mobilising and deploying assets for the elections, one cannot but applaud the woman, despite the setbacks caused by the recent unfortunate fire outbreak, the woman is simply determined to deliver. You only need to see how hard she works at the commission’ he added.
While fielding questions on the activities of the Voter’s Club of Nigeria (VCN), he said the club’s main goal is voter education and enlightenment. Tim, said the club is a voluntary organisation with chapters across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory. He added that, the organisation is poised to raising awareness on voters rights and duties across the country and beyond.
In his closing remarks, he said that the people of Kaduna State and indeed Nigerians at large are keen on seeing how the LG polls will be concluded. And in a positive note, he calls on the Kaduna State Government, Kadsiecom, Political parties and all stakeholders to ensure this process succeeds for the good of everyone.
