ENOUGH OF THE KILLING OF CHRISTIANS IN SOUTHERN KADUNA, GOVERNMENT SHOULD ACT NOW: A Press Statement By The Christian Association Of Nigeria, Southern Kaduna Chapter
It is once again with a heavy heart and deep sense of grief that we address the press to express our bewilderment over the unprovoked attacks that are over and over again meted out to our people. It is barbaric to see that at a time when the world is celebrating Christmas that we in Southern Kaduna are again thrown into burying and mourning our dear ones, and nursing the wounds of those that are struggling to live following varying degrees of bullet wounds inflicted on them by gunmen suspected to be armed Fulani terrorists.
As we speak now, arrangement has been made for the burial of 5 people at Ungwan Mailafia – Kwagiri of Gwong Chiefdom who were shot dead last night during the Christmas eve. Three others who escaped with varying degrees of bullet wounds have joined several others that were attacked Friday night at Nindem of Godogodo Chiefdom at the Throneroom Ministry Hospital, Kafanchan receiving treatment. Dozens of others in critical conditions are at the intensive care units of Jos University Teaching Hospital and the Binham University Teaching Hospital, Jos. Four people were sent to their untimely grave by that gruesome attack of Friday night at Nindem. Thursday evening a farmer in Sanga local government was battered to death by a yet to be identified individual(s). This brings the total number of people brutally murdered within the last four days to 10.
While we are all undergoing these pains and trauma, it is still fresh on our minds that our people at Goska were attacked at this same time (Christmas Eve) last year where many were brutally killed, many others maimed with several houses and properties burnt. These ugly and unprovoked attacks were again launched on our peace-loving and hospitable people of Asso during the Easter celebration of this year 2017. Now it is Christmas and the year has not ended, yet we are experiencing another series of attacks across our communities in the zone.
With all these happenings in our Senatorial zone, does government, followers of other religions or anyone has any reason to make us doubt the fact that it is our religion that is being attacked and that what we are passing through is persecution against our faith and belief? Else, why are these attacks always coming during major religious festivals? What do they want from us? To engage us in a full blown war?
The time has come when the perpetrators of these dastard acts must put an end to them. Enough is enough of these inhumane and barbaric acts. The State Government under Mallam Nasir El-rufai, the Federal Government and all Security agencies must act decisively by all means to end these evil against us. They must use every machinery and all means to fish out and make all those behind these high profile terrorism bear the brunt of the law. And if the government fails to rise to our defense, then our God shall surely arise and fight this war for us.
While we wish all Christians in Kaduna State and Nigeria merry Christmas and a blessed year ahead even under this situation, we wish to call on all to continue to love and embrace each other and demonstrate the nature of peace as found in the Lord Jesus Christ. There is serious need to be security conscious and very vigilant throughout the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
