Information reaching us indicates that the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello today met with the Principal Officers of Kogi State house of Assembly.
Reports indicate that the purpose of the meeting is for the house of assembly members to Support the governor to extend the tenure of the current chief administrators of 21 local government in the state.
It could be recalled that the National body of APC recently called for reconciliation among aggrieved members of the ruling party in the state. It was reported that part of the conditions given for the reconciliation was that the Governor should conduct the over due local government election in the state.
The Governor who already knew what could be the out come of this, met with the Principal Officers of Kogi State house of Assembly and reached an agreement with them so as to extend the tenure of the chief administrators to another eighteen months without election.
We feel pained that almost two years after Governor Bello took oath of office,” where he promised the good people of Kogi State that it is not going to be business as usual, we can confidently say that it has become more than business as usual” his government has been characterised by impunity, corruption, ineptitude, injustice, maladministration, etc.
Governor Yahaya Bello government is not popular, as such deliberately frustrating the conduct of local council polls long overdue since October 2016.
It’s unfortunate that the house of Assembly members who were elected to protect the interest of their people have turned partners in all Governor Yahaya Bello’s atrocities against the state. So unfortunate!
They are no longer fighting for the interest of their people, rather; they are after their selfish interest that’s giving free reign to impunity.
We shall use all legal means within the ambiance of law to resist any attempt to Extend the over due local government election.
We use this medium to advise the state law makers not to further tarnish their already battered image on the account in this administration.
We are conceived from our commitment to a flourishing democracy in our state. We will not therefore stand by, helplessly to watch the irreverent rape of democracy and the subjugation of the will of the people by an individual and his small circle of acolytes. We shall vigorously challenge this current threat in the court of law.
We call on all stakeholders within and outside the state to rise against this injustice befalling on us. We must rise to kick against this act of injustice and oppression bestow on our innocent citizens by the clueless, confused, frustrated and no direction government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
